Love the opportunity to teach experimental writing techniques to Chicago public high school students. This spring marks my second semester of leading a twice-monthly workshop with young poets and writers. The kids completely amaze me with their dedication, unexpected connections, and authentic insights. We explore the many pathways into creating original works, including how to interact with existing pieces as a technique for creating new, original works. We cut-up texts, black- and white-out poems, use the web to auto-generate new material, and make zines.
